Saturday, March 23rd, 10 am to 4 pm Intro to Centering Prayer Workshop with Maggie Winfrey, Coordinator of Contemplative Outreach of Atlanta (www.contemplativeoutreachatlanta.org) Do you seek the still small voice of God? Do you seek a more intimate relationship with God? Centering Prayer is a simple method of prayer, rooted in ancient Christian tradition. “… not so much the absence of thoughts as the detachment from them. It is the opening of mind and heart, body and emotions – the whole body - to God …beyond words, thoughts, and emotions.” by Thomas Keating in Open Mind, Open Heart. Register online at contemplativeoutreachatlanta.com For further information contact Dana Kuehn (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Maggie Winfrey (email@example.com)
Sunday Morning Book Study The Adult Spiritual Formation Team is offering classes during Lent from 9:30 to 10:15 AM prior to service. The classes will be led/facilitated by members of the congregation and based on the book Morning Sun on a White Piano: Simple Pleasures and the Sacramental Life. Participants are asked to purchase and read the book prior to the first class. Not all chapters will be covered in the classes, but we are confident you will enjoy all of them and find them thought provoking. Dana Kuehn will facilitate the next session and discuss chapters X and XII.
Fourth Sundays at Four: Celebrate the Spring Equinox, the beauty of the Earth, and the community garden. Join us for the opening day of our Church of the Woods, Fourth Sundays at Four, beginning March 24 This liturgy will occur every 4th Sunday of the month at 4:00 PM, in the front woods at the meeting circle on the knoll. The ministry team is shaping this liturgy to be a time of simple liturgy and deep connection to the creation and the creator of all things, with time for quiet reflection, walking, community sharing and prayer, and the ritual of God’s feast in Bread and Wine. We are attempting to reach people in the larger community who have given up on church, or for any variety of reasons are looking for something NOT on Sunday mornings, and NOT within the confines of highly structured church order. This is a service that we hope will draw people who are, as we say these days, ‘spiritual but not religious. Without lots of fanfare or advance marketing we will begin our simple outdoor church service this month on March 24th, to simply get started. Marketing will come and we will get the word out, but, most importantly, do your part with invitation. A Community Garden Blessing will follow the 4 PM service at 5 PM.
